Virtual reality!

Ooh, what’s going on here? No really. We have no idea what is going on here! But we have heard on good authority that Daisy, Connor and Lacey are having the best time!

Today we had a visit from an educational virtual reality group called Ignite VR. You might not know it to look at them, but the children had an amazing time immersed in digital worlds!

Natalie thought it was hilarious to watch and hear the children moving about and talking, even shouting at things, that only they could see!

We were unable to export a photo or video of what the children were playing but here’s a list of educational and entertainment based games the Ignite VR team provide:

• Keep Talking and No One Explodes

• Space Pirate Trainer

• Beat Saber

We had conversations with children about their experiences with VR including the Sony Playstation VR, Meta Quest, and on those amazing VR rollercoaster rides at the arcade. We also talked about current and future applications of virtual reality that go beyond just entertainment including tourism, education and training, health and medical, military, and space.

Before we get too carried away with all of that though, here’s what some of the children had to say about their experience:

Lacey

Lots of fun!

I did two games, I did cooking first and then I did shops

In the cooking one I cooked sausages and my first customer got one sausage and some chips

In the shops one I had a customer which was a robot thing that flew in the sky and I got some coke for the robot and also a packet of chips

I’ve never done it before and would like to do it again

I had lots of fun

I did the office job

Sophie S

I did the shopping and the kitchen

I kept making food in the kitchen like pickle sandwiches and in the shopping I sold a juice, two muesli bars and some crackers. Also, in the kitchen you got to pull a lever and the fridge turned into a dry pantry

They were really good and lots of fun, can we have them again next holidays?

We had tasks to do like sell as much stuff in the shops or we would get fired from the job

I had to give them the milk and cook the milk to make a cake

I made a smoothie in the cooking job and I made bacon and eggs

Do you know what I had to do? Crack the eggs and I spilt them!

I kept dropping everything on the floor..

Can we do this day again tomorrow?!

I had so much fun!

We did VR and I did the cooking and restaurant and then I also did the shopping

In the shopping one I grabbed the clock off the wall and on the back of it it said, ‘You’re on the clock, human!’

I would like to do it again next holidays

Today was my first time using a VR

In the restaurant I threw the cactus at the robot, he got angry for a second, but then it was ok

Well, I was doing jobs simulator VR

I did the shopping job

Attempt one- it was very blurry and I got stuck on the 6th customer

Attempt two- I got better than last time, it was like still blurry, but I didn’t get robbed

Yes, I liked it. By the way it was my 4th and 5th experience on a VR
